TheDaytona Beach Blind Bowlers would like to invite the Bowlers in your league to participate in the 17th Sunshine Invitational Blind Bowling Tournament (SIBB),to be held in Daytona Beach, Florida. It will be held over the Labor Day Weekend,Friday, September 2nd through Sunday, September 4th.  We have invited bowlers within the United States who are members of the American Blind Bowlers Association (ABBA).  However, to participate in the tournament,you do not have to be a member of any association and sighted family membersand friends are welcome to bowl.  

SIBB is designed to promote the blind bowling program by introducing new bowlers to its many benefits while providing seasoned bowlers with competition that is challenging and fun. 

The fun begins Friday night at 7:00 p.m., with a "meet and greet"hospitality get together.  Theregistration desk will be located there as well and you will be able to pick upyour schedule at this time. This will be an opportunity for you to make newbowling friends and reunite with old ones! As always, there will be plenty of cheer and plenty of food, and lots of good company too.  Don’t miss out on all the southern hospitality.  

Saturday morning will be the team event, followed in the afternoon by a Nine Pin No TapTournament that will be a fund raiser for the Southeastern Guide DogAssociation. Saturday evening is the banquet. Door prizes will be given at this event. We will also have music for your dancing and listening pleasure, our deejay is always happy to take requests.   Sunday morning/afternoon there will be two squads of singles/doubles. Please let us know if you have a time preference, morning or afternoon.   

On Sunday evening we will open the hospitality roomat 7 P.M. We will be holding the Race Pool Event again by popular demand so make sure you get your picks early. Our own NASCAR Johnny will once again be selling these picks through out the tournament.  Throughout the weekend, in the hospitality room, wewill display several “theme baskets” containing various items all related to a particular theme. You will be able to buy raffle tickets for any basket that you like and we will pick the winners on Sunday evening.  All proceeds from this raffle will help pay hospitality room expenses.     We will also have T-Shirts available for sale for$20.00 each. If you would like to reserve a T-Shirt please include sizes on the attached order form and we will have them for you at the tournament.

The La Playa Resort is a full service facility located across the street from Bellair Bowling Lanes.  Rates are $85.00 per night plus 12.5% sales tax with a three night minimum.  For reservations call 386-672-0990.   These special room rates are available three nights before and three nights after thetournament. The three night minimum stay is required because it is a holiday weekend.  Reservations must be made by August 1,2016.  Be sure to let them know you are with the Blind Bowlers Tournament in order to get the special rate. Room rates also include a complimentary Continental Breakfast.  All rooms are furnished with a microwave,fridge and a private balcony.   Our motel is a 3 Star Hotel and is right across from the Bowling Lanes. It is within walking distance of several restaurants and stores. 

Saturday evening there will be a banquet at the hotel. The price is only $25.00 for bowlers and guests. This year’s banquet will consist of Boneless chicken breast served on a bed of cornbread dressing and served with a savory chicken gravy,Tossed salad, chef choice starch, seasonal vegetables, dinner rolls and butter,coffee, and iced tea. There will be a Vegetarian Plate available also.  There will be music, door prizes and a cashbar.

DOTS provides visitors with scheduled transportation to and from Orlando airports daily. Shuttles are shared ride, scheduled every 2-3 hours.  Unless you make special arrangements withthem, you will be dropped off at the office location address above, which is about 5 miles from the hotel.  If you have 4 or more people in your group, they will drop you off at the hotel at no extra charge, but you must specify this when you call. DAYTONA BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:   For those of you flying into Daytona, the airport is about 8- 1/5 miles from the hotel. Taxis are available at the ground transportation area.  After deplaning, descend to the first floor and turn right into baggage claim. After claiming your bags; continue out the door at the end of the building to obtain a taxi. 

NINEPIN NO TAP BOWLING EVENT:   Can’t get enough bowling in during the tournament?  Or maybe you just want alittle warm up practice a day early?  We have the solution to your problem.  TheDaytona Beach blind bowlers will hold a 9 pin no tap event, all proceeds tobenefit The Halifax Council of the Blind, (HCB), an affiliate of the AmericanCouncil of the Blind, (ACB).  This willtake place on Friday afternoon, September 2nd at 1 PM at the Bellair Lanes across from the hotel.  This is a fundraising event for the Halifax Council of the Blind.  Blind and sighted bowlers are welcome to participate.  There will be cashprizes.   The entry fee is $20 and thiswill include 3 games of 9 pin no tap bowling. Why not come join us for some good competitive bowling and fun while supporting a very worthwhile cause.  For those wishing to participate, payment may be included with your tournament check.  There is also a form in the packet to fill out if you are interested in participating in this event.      For further information about the tournament, you can contact: Mary Tyson at (386)212-9496 or you can email:

17TH SUNSHINE INVITATIONAL BLIND BOWLING TOURNAMENT  The purpose of SIBB is to promote an interest in blind bowling. Participation is by invitation.  Averages to be used for this tournament will be the Book Average of ABBA, ABC, and WIBC.  Bowlers who do not have any of these averages can establish their average after the games in the tournament (teams, doubles,& singles). Thehandicap to be used in this tournament will be 100% of 200. A FourPerson Team must have a totally blind bowler or equivalent (partially sightedbowler with an average of 120 or less). The remainder of the team may consist of any bowlers entering thetournament, but not to exceed more than two sighted bowlers. There is only one division for each event. A Two Person Team must have at least one totally blind bowler or equivalent (partially sighted bowler with an average of 120 or less).  There is only one division for each event. Cash prizes for team, doubles, and singles eventwill be one prize for each ten entries. All events will be one prize for each10 entries.  All USBC and ABBA rules will be observed. The foul light will be on for all competitions. Bowlers will alternate lanes in each event. Bowlers who arrive late may make up frames provided that 2 frames have not been completed. If 2 frames have been completed the bowler will not bowl that game and a score of minus 10 of their average will be used that game. They can bowl the remaining games.  In the event a bowler cannot bowl and a qualified replacement cannot be found, a score of minus 10 of their average will be used.  If a team has a vacancy (no qualified bowler available) the team will use a score of 120 for each game.

  • Bowling fee $6.00                 
  • PRIZE FUND:  $6.00
  • EXPENSES:      $1.75 
  •                   ALL EVENTS:    $1.25

Lovers Lanes Invitational Tournament

As we had discussed in our meeting in Myrtle Beach we have decided to change the dates of the tournament to get more participation in our tournament. The cut-off date is Wednesday, May 3, 2017. You must identify yourself as a member of ABBA to receive the group rate of $99 + 12.57% tax for single/double rooms. Reservations need to be guaranteed with a credit card for the first night of the reservation. If you need to cancel a reservation, notify the hotel by 3pm the day prior to arrival to avoid being billed for the first night’s stay. Check in is 3pm, and check out is 12pm (noon). Come & have fun in Phoenix, nicknamed Valley of the Sun – with 300 days of sunshine each year! This year is the 70th Annual National Tournament. It is being held in Phoenix, Arizona. We are staying at the Crowne PlazaPhoenix Airport. The rate per night is $99 plus tax. We are bowling at the Brunswick Desert Sky Lanes. Phoenix is called the Valley of the Sun and it is going to feel so great to be bowling in the Valley of the Sun and knocking those pinsdown. The National Tournament Committee has been working very hard to make this one of the greatest tournaments inABBA history. Please remember that every member of ourorganization that is blind or visually impaired can apply toChallenged Athletes Foundation. The website is

Also, for members who have never been to a national tournament they can apply to the past presidents committee for funding through the Wayne Keeney fund.

So, everyone has been asking me what is in Phoenix, wellthere is the Grand Canyon, for which we are looking at tour pricing. There are also a lot of Native American museums and art. Phoenix also has casinos, and I know a lot of members love going to cities that have casinos. I have also discovered a company called Arizona Brew Tour. They havepublic and private tours of breweries in Phoenix. I am expecting additional information from the owner so we can hopefully arrange a tour for our group. Lastly, those members wholove music might be interested in going to the music instrument museum. This museum has instruments from all across the world. In a nutshell, those are a few things to do inPhoenix. I cannot wait to see everyone in Phoenix.
